Meet Emily

What inspired you to become a therapist?

I was drawn to psychology by a deep desire to understand how people make meaning of their experiences especially during vulnerable, identity-shifting moments like becoming a parent. Over time, I saw how often the emotional needs of new and expecting parents were minimized or overlooked, and I knew I wanted to change that.

What types of clients do you typically work with?

I work with individuals navigating the reproductive and early parenting journey including those experiencing postpartum depression or anxiety, infertility, birth trauma, or perinatal loss. Many of my clients are overwhelmed, grieving, or feeling like they’ve lost a sense of themselves and they’re looking for a space to feel understood and regain emotional footing.

How would you describe your approach to therapy?

My approach is gentle, effective, and collaborative. I often integrate cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with trauma-informed techniques to help clients feel more in control of their thoughts, emotions, and choices. Above all, I prioritize validation and trust meeting clients where they are and helping them move forward with clarity and compassion.

What can a client expect from their first session with you?

The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. I’ll ask questions to better understand what’s bringing you in, what’s been difficult, and what you’re hoping to change. I’ll also share more about how I work so you can decide if it feels like the right fit. My goal is to make you feel safe, respected, and not alone in whatever you’re facing.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone struggling with their mental health, what would it be?

You don’t have to wait until things are unbearable to ask for support. Your pain is valid, and help is available sooner, and more accessibly, than you might think.

What do you hope clients take away from their work with you?

I hope clients walk away feeling more grounded, more self-compassionate, and better equipped to handle life’s challenges. I want them to feel less alone and more like themselves again.

Is there anything else that you'd like to share?

I’m passionate about raising awareness and reducing stigma around maternal mental health. Outside of individual therapy, I speak and write regularly to help others feel seen and understood during a time of life that is often misrepresented or ignored.
